Khenpo Karten Rinpoche spent three years, three months, and three days on solitary retreat in his early 20’s.  The experience began with much discomfort, physically and mentally, but ended with Rinpoche asking to extend the retreat another 3 years!   Indeed, while that particular Abbot did not allow Rinpoche to continue his retreat at the monastery, Rinpoche returned to his home village, and did an additional 2 years of solitary retreat in a cave near his home town.

On Sunday, April 9th, Rinpoche will speak about the importance and benefits of solitary retreat to the teens of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Monterey Pennisula, at approximately 11:30-12:00pm.  The event is NOT open to the public, but listed here to help keep track of our busy Rinpoche’s schedule.
