Milarepa’s tragic childhood led him to train in black magic\, eventually unleashing a tide of killing and destruction. \nBut he came to regret his actions and sought and found his teacher\, Marpa\, who\, being aware that Milarepa had to purify his negative karma\, exposed him to many extremely difficult trials. Eventually\, Marpa gave Milarepa full transmissions of all the Mahamudra teachings from Naropa\, Maitripa and other Indian masters. Practicing these teachings for many years in isolated mountain retreats\, Milarepa attained enlightenment.
