SUMMARY:Tibetan Uprising Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, March 10th\, 2026 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm PST in-person at Windows on the Bay\, the corner of Del Monte and El Estero (703 Del Monte Ave\, Monterey\, CA 93940) as we join a day of international protests known as Tibetan Uprising Day. \n\nPlease note: Protesters cannot step into the street or hand out leaflets to cars\, as per a city safety mandate. Signs will be provided\, or you may bring your own. We will be there rain or shine.\n\nThe annual protest on Tibetan Uprising Day is very special to Rinpoche\, an event that he has organized with the MDC annually for many years. 2026 marks 67 years of oppression and resistance. Rinpoche\, his students and supporters in Monterey will continue to make our community aware of the ongoing human rights abuses in Tibet\, in solidarity with such protests around the world. \nSince the Chinese occupation in 1959\, more than one million Tibetans have been killed. To fly a Tibetan flag\, even mention His Holiness the Dalai Lama\, send an email abroad\, or say the phrase “human rights\,” is cause for imprisonment and torture. 99% of all Tibetan monasteries have been closed. These horrors and atrocities continue today throughout Tibet. The situation is desperate and worsening; the Tibetan people and their culture are being systematically attacked. \nAround one million Tibetan children are forced to attend government boarding schools. Children as young as four are educated with CCP-approved lesson plans and taught almost entirely in Chinese. In some parts of Tibet\, parents must attend language classes to make sure that Chinese is spoken at home.  Buddhist monasteries are told to shut down their free language classes. Tibetan educators are threatened or detained for offering language instruction to children. Even the name “Tibet” is under threat. \n Xizang Tibet\nIn an act of colonial violence\, the CCP is pushing for English-language references around Tibet to be changed to “Xizang”\, the Chinese name for Tibet imposed by the Chinese government. \nYet\, Tibetans continue to stand up against this repression in a non-violent way\, as they have each year for over 66 years. We cannot let the world forget. Please lend your voice to peace\, justice\, and freedom:  Support Tibet! \nTibet is the least free country on earth. SUMMARY:Happy Chötrul Düchen Full Moon Celebration of Miracles & Lunar Eclipse
DESCRIPTION:Chötrul Düchen is one of four major Tibetan Buddhist holy days\, celebrated on the first full moon after lunar new year.   It is known as the Butter Lamp Festival\, Festival of Lights\, or Great Day of Miraculous Manifestations.  It commemorates the day that Buddha Shakyamuni settled the question of his enlightenment with naysayers by performing many miracles.  This full moon day is considered a “merit multiplier” day\, with the effects of both positive and negative actions multiplied ten million times. \nThis year\, in addition to Chötrul Düchen falling on Tuesday\, March 3\, 2026\, there is a total lunar eclipse\, often called a “Blood Moon.”   The eclipse will be visible across North and Central America\, the Pacific\, East Asia\, and Australia.  (Totality is at 3:04am Pacific Time).  This is the only total lunar eclipse of 2026 and the last one visible from North America until 2028\, making it a rare event. \nLearn More: The Story of the 15 Days of Miracles\, Rigpa Wiki-Brief Explanation of Chotrul Duchen \nLearn More:  Total Lunar Eclipse March 3\, 2026 \n\nAlthough we will not host a celebration at MDC\, practitioners are encouraged to celebrate their good fortune in encountering Dharma\, to practice virtue and positive thinking on this day.  There are miracles in every moment of being alive.

SUMMARY:POSTPONED: Introduction to Ngöndro: The Kagyu Preliminary Practices
DESCRIPTION:Dear Sangha–Rinpoche has asked to postpone this teaching to a later date.   Sorry for the late notice\, and thank you for understanding!  \n\n  \nIntroduction to Ngöndro: The Kagyu Preliminary Practices \nSaturday\, February 28\, 2026\nfollowing meditation from 10:00am to 11:00am\n11:00am to 11:30pm–tea/coffee/snacks available/set up Luckypot\n11:30am to 1:30pm–teaching\n1:30pm to 2:30pm–Luckypot (pot luck)\nManjushri Dharma Center\nIn-Person and on Zoom\nDonations of any amount welcome\, no one turned away for lack of funds\nNo registration needed–just show up! \nAbout the Event\nOur mind has the potential to bring forth a bountiful harvest of wisdom and compassion\, but for such seeds to grow\, the ground needs to be properly prepared. Preliminary practices serve to purify negative karmic imprints\, enrich our mind with positive potential and blessings\, and connect us to a long lineage of practitioners. Engaging in the preliminary practices serves as an invaluable tool to both create a firm foundation for practice and deepen our path.  Khenpo Karten Rinpoche will present an overview introduction to the Kagyu preliminary practices known as Ngöndro along with an oral transmission blessing.  Please bring a dish to share for a “Luckypot” luncheon on after the teaching (breakfast items welcome!).  Consecutive interpretation will be provided by David Molk aka Jampa Tharchin. \nText\n\nNgondro Sadhana\n\nResources for Ngöndro Practice:\n\nTurning Confusion into Clarity: A Guide to the Foundation Practices of Tibetan Buddhism\, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche (print or audio book)\nNgondro: Karma Kagyu Preliminaries\, DVD–By: Lama Karma Wangdu\nTorch of True Meaning: Instructions and the Practice for the Mahamudra Preliminaries–By: Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye\, Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje\nNgondro for Our Current Day: A Short Ngondro Practice and Its Instructions–By: Seventeenth Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje\nNgondro Commentary–By: Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche\nMandala supplies (purchase at Vajra Collection or other retail store selling items from Nepal/Tibet/India)\nKagyu Refuge Tree Guru lineage poster \n\nNames on the Refuge Tree in English\nབཀའ་བརྒྱུད་ཀྱི་བརྒྱུད་པའི་ཤིང་སྡོང་གི་པོ་སྟེར་ཐོག་གི་མིང་བྱང་བོད་ཡིག་ཏུ་བྲིས་པ།\n\n\n\nAbout Ngöndro\nSource:  Adapted from Wikipedia \nThe Tibetan term Ngöndro refers to the preliminary\, preparatory or foundational practices common to all four schools of Tibetan Buddhism and also to Bon.  Each tradition will have a variation on the practice.  The version we will learn in this retreat is the Karma Kagyu practice.  The term ngöndro literally denotes meanings in the range of “something that goes before\, something which precedes.” The preliminary practices establish the foundation for the more advanced and rarefied Vajrayana practices of Dzogchen\, Heruka and Mahamudra.   Nevertheless\, Vajrayana masters are careful to point out that “foundational” does not mean “lesser\,” that the practice of Ngöndro is a complete and sufficient practice of the spiritual path\, and that it can take the practitioner all the way to full enlightenment. \nOuter and inner preliminaries \nIn general the preliminary practices are divided into two sections or kinds: the first are the common or ordinary kind of preliminary practices\, and the second are the special or extraordinary kind of preliminaries. \nOuter preliminaries \nThe common or ordinary preliminaries consists of a series of deep reflections or contemplations on the following four topics: \nthe freedoms and advantages of precious human rebirth\nthe truth of impermanence and change\nthe workings of karma\nthe suffering of living beings within samsara \nThe above four contemplations are sometimes referred to as “the four reminders” or “the four mind-changers” or “the four thoughts which turn the mind towards Dharma.”  Additional reflections may be included in the specific instructions on the outer preliminaries within different lineages\, but the above four topics are the main reflections. \nInner preliminaries \nThe special or extraordinary kind of preliminaries consist of : \ntaking of refuge in the three roots in conjunction with the performance of prostrations (purifying pride)\ncultivation of bodhicitta (purifying jealousy)\nrecitations of Vajrasattva’s hundred-syllable mantra (purifying hatred/aversion/harsh words)\nmandala offerings (purifying attachment)\nguru yoga practices (purifying delusion) \nThese practices purify negative deeds and accumulate merit. Traditionally ngöndro practice is done for the enlightenment of the spiritual aspirant and for the benefit of all sentient beings. That is\, the merit of doing the practices is dedicated to all sentient beings. These practices are typically done to reach a certain goal (100\,00 prostrations\, 100\,000 Vajrasattva recitations\, etc). \n\n\n\nZoom Link to Join: \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/86274306749?pwd=MHhxUmtQZlVmWDJKUklSS3QvV05rdz09\nMeeting ID: 862 7430 6749\nPasscode: Love=Peace\nOne tap mobile\n+16699009128\,\,86274306749#\,\,\,\,*4723131265# US (San Jose)\n+16694449171\,\,86274306749#\,\,\,\,*4723131265# US\n\n\nDial by your location\n        +1 669 900 9128 US (San Jose)\n        +1 669 444 9171 US\n        +1 719 359 4580 US\n        +1 253 205 0468 US\n        +1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\n        +1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)\n        +1 564 217 2000 US\n        +1 646 558 8656 US (New York)\n        +1 646 931 3860 US\n        +1 689 278 1000 US\n        +1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC)\n        +1 305 224 1968 US\n        +1 309 205 3325 US\n        +1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\n        +1 360 209 5623 US\n        +1 386 347 5053 US\n        +1 507 473 4847 US\nMeeting ID: 862 7430 6749\nPasscode: 4723131265\nFind your local number: https://us02web.zoom.us/u/kdVGgCWTHU

We look forward to seeing you all very soon. \nHere is background about the yurt:\nThe 30-foot yurt was originally donated to Khenpo Karten Rinpoche by Thay Kozen\, Rinpoche’s dear friend and the spiritual leader of Mount Adams Buddhist Temple. When Rinpoche decided to move from Pacific Grove to the Pacific Northwest (no details on that yet\, no timeline) Rinpoche offered the yurt to his dear Dharma brother Lama Lakshey Zangpo.   The generous gift lives on and connects these three dear teachers and their students in a knot of unending good energy. \nRead more about the yurt: \n\nWe have a yurt!\nYurt has arrived! Thank you Volunteers!\nYurt Moving Day\n\nQuestions? \nContact Rachel Christopherson at rachelMDC2016@gmail.com or text or call 831-277-0529.

SUMMARY:New Year's Eve Vajrasattva Purification Practice
DESCRIPTION:Start the New Year of 2026 with a clean slate by purifying negative karma of body\, speech and mind accumulated over the past year and in past lives through the powerful practice of Vajrasattva (Dorje Sempa). \nThis special event will consist of teachings by Khenpo Karten Rinpoche on the Vajrasattva practice\, an explanation of the meaning of the mantra and on the four opponent powers (tob shi) that we perform to purify our negative actions. After a short break\, we will then accumulate recitations of the Vajrasattva Mantra. After the Puja\, MDC will celebrate the coming New Year with tea and treats.  Please wear white clothing or adornments if you can (no worries if not)\, and feel free to bring some food or refreshments to welcome in the new year (again no pressure\, just come! We will have plenty). \nLink to texts:  The Sadhana of Glorious Vajrasattva\, a Terma Revelation of H.H. SUMMARY:Winter Solstice Blessing of the Waters 2025
DESCRIPTION:Winter Solstice Blessing of the Waters 2025\nSunday\, December 21st\, 2025\n4:00pm to 5:00pm \nLover’s Point Beach\n17th St and Ocean View Blvd\, Pacific Grove\, CA\n \nThis year is very special\, because Rinpoche will be moving to Portland sometime in the next year\, and this may be the last year we gather together in person at the winter solstice.  Although it is Rinpoche’s intention to return for summer and winter solstices to Lover’s Point beach to conduct this ceremony every year\, life is unpredictable.   Please join us on the winter solstice for this special event!\nDecember 21st\, 2025 is the winter solstice\, the shortest day of the year.   For many years now\, at both summer and winter solstices\, Khenpo Karten Rinpoche offers a Blessing of the Waters\, by reciting two prayers that he composed\, Propitiating the Devas of the Four Elements and the Prayer for World Peace.   This year we will once again gather in community and send our good energy to the ocean\, to all the waters of the world\, and to all of nature and humanity.  Attendees will be provided with candles to light as we celebrate the light of love and wisdom.  Attendees are encouraged to bring flower petals to scatter as we send our good wishes to the ocean and the world. \nEntire Collection of Texts:  Naga Torma and Blessing for the Four Elements (Tibetan and English) \nCan’t make this event\, but wish to participate? Practitioners may download these prayers to recite at the beach\, by a river\, or wherever you choose outside in nature.  Bring some flowers to offer and send your good energy and wishes for healing to the waters of the world\, all the elements of nature\, and all sentient beings.  Additionally\, here is an “instruction on how to practice” the Blessing of the Waters\, composed by Rinpoche and Pema Tsultrim with more information on how to  conduct a “do-it-yourself” Blessing of the Waters.  Instructions on Blessing the Waters \nQuestions?  Contact Rachel at rachelmdc2016@gmail.com \n\nPrayer for Peace\nThrough roots of goodness of us all on this vast earth\, \nMay all living creatures become full of\nlove and compassion\, \nSo that all enjoy peace on earth! \n  \nStop bad intentions\, thoughts and deeds\nof all those who terrorize others\, \nThat all living beings on this earth\ncome together like one family! \n  \nMay all be well\, have long life and health\nwith bliss of mind\, free of illusion. \nMay all mothers have oceans of bliss\nof body\, for now\, and ultimately of mind. \n  \nMay this lamp of wisdom love\, oneness\,\nhighest remedy to clear darkness\, \nEnter the hearts of all living beings\,\nso their perfect path be illumined! \n  \nFootnote to Prayer for Peace:  In the name of all religions on earth\, as I see and hear of increasingly many unwarranted harmful actions being enacted\, thinking\, with a joyful\, universal aspiration\, how wonderful it would be if all such activities ceased entirely.  Khenpo Karten Rinpoche\, on 2-4-2015\, on Wednesday\, His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s auspicious day\, wrote this dedication prayer to be recited at the conclusion of other prayers\, meditation\, or practices.

SUMMARY:Happy Lhabab Düchen!
DESCRIPTION:Lhabab Düchen is a Buddhist festival celebrated to observe the Buddha’s descent from the Trāyastriṃśa heaven down to earth. According to legend\, the Buddha ascended the Trāyastriṃśa heaven temporarily at the age of 41\, in order to give teachings to benefit the gods in that desire realm and to repay the kindness of his mother by liberating her from Samsara. He was exhorted by his disciple and representative Maudgalyayana to return\, and after a long debate and under a Full Moon Buddha agreed to return. He returned to earth a week later by a special triple ladder prepared by Viswakarma\, the god of machines. This event is considered to be one of the eight great deeds of the Buddha. \nOn Lhabab Düchen\, the effects of positive or negative actions are multiplied ten million times. It is part of Tibetan Buddhist tradition to engage in virtuous activities and prayer on this day. \nThis year Rinpoche is on retreat during this great occasion–to rejoice in his merit is a great virtuous act!\n\nHappy Lhabab Düchen \nAbout the image: The Buddha’s Descent from Tavatimsa Heaven\, 19th Century\, Thailand\, from the Walters Art Museum\, and Look and Learn History.

SUMMARY:Blessing of the Butterflies 2025
DESCRIPTION:  \nEvery year\, Khenpo Karten Rinpoche prays together with the Pacific Grove community for the monarch butterflies as they make their epic 3000 mile migration\, stopping at the Pacific Grove Monarch Sanctuary.  The monarchs need prayers more than ever. \nTypically in October\, monarch butterflies cluster together on pine\, cypress and eucalyptus trees in the Sanctuary. Their migration to Pacific Grove is so unique that Pacific Grove is nicknamed ‘Butterfly Town\, U.S.A.’ The community has always welcomed the butterflies and advocated for their protection. Citizens of Pacific Grove voted to create an additional tax to create the Monarch Grove Sanctuary which is cared for by dedicated volunteers. \nThe Monarch Grove Sanctuary is located at 250 Ridge Road\, Pacific Grove\, CA\, 93950. \nDirections and More information:  https://www.cityofpacificgrove.org/visiting/monarch-butterfly-sanctuary \nNote:  Description drawn from the City of Pacific Grove website. \n

SUMMARY:Refuge Ceremony October 2025
DESCRIPTION:Taking refuge has a very profound meaning\, and Buddhist practitioners take refuge regularly in the Buddha\, Dharma\, and Sangha–but there is also a very special refuge ceremony.  In a refuge ceremony\, you are formally becoming a Buddhist and creating a deep karmic link with the teacher.  You commit yourself to the path of love and compassion and to awakening the non-dualistic freedom that already exists within you. \nIf any member of the community would like to take refuge with Rinpoche\, he has chosen an auspicious date:  Wednesday\, October 1\, 2025 from 10-11am at the Manjushri Dharma Center.   Please contact him in person or by phone at 831-917-3969 to make arrangements. \nThose who have already taken refuge may join the ceremony to renew their vows. \nThe meaning of taking refuge is very profound\, and there are many layers.  Taking refuge does involve certain specific commitments\, and Rinpoche wrote about the 5 Precepts and Benefits of Precepts of Refuge.  The Refuge Vow Book  may be presented to each person taking refuge with Rinpoche.   The date & your Dharma name will be added in the back of the book–if no books are available\, you will be given a piece of paper with your Dharma name. \n\n5 Precepts + Benefits and Precepts of Refuge\nRefuge Vow Book Example\n\nHere are a few additional resources explaining the meaning of the refuge ceremony in Buddhism (these are not directly from Rinpoche):\nhttps://www.samyeling.org/buddhism-and-meditation/teaching-archive-2/choje-akong-tulku-rinpoche/the-meaning-of-taking-refuge/\nhttps://www.lionsroar.com/the-decision-to-become-a-buddhist/ \nQuestions?  Contact Rachel at rachelmdc2016@gmail.com. \nImage: One of a Pair of Manuscript Covers from the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra (Ashtasahasrika Prajnaparamita Sutra); Original public domain image from Art Institute of Chicago.

SUMMARY:Chökhor Düchen - First Turning of the Wheel of Dharma
DESCRIPTION:Please join Rinpoche and the MDC to celebrate Chökhor Düchen – ‘The First Turning of the Wheel of Dharma’ with a Buddha Shakyamuni Puja. This is an important holiday in which we honor the day that the Buddha Shakyamuni first taught after attaining enlightenment. For seven weeks after his enlightenment\, Buddha did not teach. Finally\, encouraged by Indra and Brahma\, he turned the Wheel of Dharma for the first time\, at Sarnath\, by teaching the ‘Four Noble Truths’. Before the event\, please read Rinpoche’s in-depth Teaching and blog Essence of Buddhism As Related to the Four Noble Truths (http://www.khenpokarten.org/2019/10/normal.html) \nText for evening: Treasury-of-Blessings-Shakyamuni-Practice-byMiphamRinpoche\nAbout Chökhor Düchen\nChökhor Düchen  is one of the four great occassions (Losar\, Saga Dawa\, Choekhor Duchen and Lhabab Duchen) celebrated by all Tibetan Buddhists. During those times\, it is believed that the effects of positive or negative actions are multiplied ten million times.  It falls in the Tibetan Lunar calendar in the 6th month\, 4th day.  Choekhor means “Prayer Wheel” or “Dharma Wheel”\, the common religious objects in Tibet\, and Duchen means “great occasion” in Tibetan. Hand held wheels are hollow wooden or metal cylinders attached to a handle which are printed with mantras and when turned spread spiritual blessing. Mantras invoke the attention and blessings of the Buddhas\, for example —Om Mani Padme Hum–the mantra of Chenrezig also known as Avalokiteshvara who is the Buddha of Compassion\, invokes great love\, compassion\, and wisdom.  Tradition has it that Buddha was not convinced that teaching what he had discovered through his meditations could be communicated in a way that would be of any benefit to others. It took the intercession of the great gods\, Brahma and Indra\, to persuade him to do so for the benefit of all sentient beings. The Buddha then addressed the five people who had been his companions during the time spent with the forest yogins\, and taught this first teaching–the Four Noble Truths.\n\n\n\n\nZoom Link to Join: \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/86274306749?pwd=MHhxUmtQZlVmWDJKUklSS3QvV05rdz09\nMeeting ID: 862 7430 6749\nPasscode: Love=Peace\nOne tap mobile\n+16699009128\,\,86274306749#\,\,\,\,*4723131265# US (San Jose)\n+16694449171\,\,86274306749#\,\,\,\,*4723131265# US\n\n\nDial by your location\n        +1 669 900 9128 US (San Jose)\n        +1 669 444 9171 US\n        +1 719 359 4580 US\n        +1 253 205 0468 US\n        +1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\n        +1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)\n        +1 564 217 2000 US\n        +1 646 558 8656 US (New York)\n        +1 646 931 3860 US\n        +1 689 278 1000 US\n        +1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC)\n        +1 305 224 1968 US\n        +1 309 205 3325 US\n        +1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\n        +1 360 209 5623 US\n        +1 386 347 5053 US\n        +1 507 473 4847 US\nMeeting ID: 862 7430 6749\nPasscode: 4723131265\nFind your local number: https://us02web.zoom.us/u/kdVGgCWTHU

SUMMARY:Dzam Ling Chi Sang: Universal Prayer Day Smoke Puja
DESCRIPTION:Universal Prayer Day\, or Dzam Ling Chi Sang\, is celebrated on the full moon of the 15th day of the 5th month of the Tibetan Lunar calendar\, which is July 10\, 2025 of the Gregorian calendar. It is a time for spiritual cleansing. Tibetans hang prayer flags and burn juniper twigs.  Rinpoche will lead us in a smoke puja in the backyard of the Manjushri Dharma Center\, and the ceremony will go for one hour from (approximately) 10:00AM to 11:00AM.  Participants are invited to wear all white clothing to symbolize purification. After the Dzam Ling Chi Sang ceremony\, all are invited to stay for tea. \n“Here is a brief history of Dzam Ling Chi Sang . During the time of Trisong Detsen \, the first emperor of Tibet \, there were many evil mountain deities in Tubo Kingdom. Guru Rinpoche was invited to Tibet to subdue these evil deities and turned them into Dharma protectors instead. Also after Samye Monastery was built\, Guru Rinpoche held a ceremony to give thanks to all the deities\, nagas\, yakshas\, devas and so on. During the day\, humans built Samye Monastery but at night\, all the devas and spirits continue to construct the temple. That is why at the completion of Samye Monastery\, Guru Rinpoche held a smoke offering ceremony to commemorate this and to honor the deities. This is the beginning of Dzam Ling Chi Sang since the time of Guru Rinpoche till the present day. Also Sang is Tibetan for incense powder which is also used to purify our body\, speech and mind.” \nFrom Rinpoche’s 2023 Facebook post \nQuestions?  Contact Rachel (MDC volunteer/president) at rachel.i.christo@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Summer Solstice Blessing of the Waters 2025
DESCRIPTION:Friday June 20th\, 2025 is the summer solstice\, the longest day of the year.  For many years now\, at both summer and winter solstices\, Khenpo Karten Rinpoche offers a Blessing of the Waters\, by reciting two prayers that he composed\, Propitiating the Devas of the Four Elements and the Prayer for World Peace. We now have a new prayer book with many other prayers as well.   This year\, we will meet again in person at Lover’s Point Beach.  We will gather in community and send our good energy to the ocean\, to all the waters of the world\, and to all of nature and humanity.  Attendees are asked to bring flower petals/flowers for the offering. \nBecause this practice is on the beach\, there is no opportunity for us to also broadcast online (as far as known). \nThis practice may also be done by any person in they place they live.  Practitioners may download these prayers to recite at the beach\, by a river\, or wherever you choose outside in nature.  Bring some flowers to offer and send your good energy and wishes for healing to the waters of the world\, all the elements of nature\, and all sentient beings. \nHere is an “instruction on how to practice” the Blessing of the Waters\, composed by Rinpoche and Pema Tsultrim/Aaron (past MDC President) with more information on how to  conduct a “do-it-yourself” Blessing of the Waters ceremony.  Instructions on Blessing the Waters \nTashi Delek! \nPrayer for World Peace \nThrough roots of goodness of us all on this vast earth\, \nMay all living creatures become full of\nlove and compassion\, \nSo that all enjoy peace on earth! \nStop bad intentions\, thoughts and deeds\nof all those who terrorize others\, \nThat all living beings on this earth\ncome together like one family! \nMay all be well\, have long life and health\nwith bliss of mind\, free of illusion. \nMay all mothers have oceans of bliss\nof body\, for now\, and ultimately of mind. \nMay this lamp of wisdom love\, oneness\,\nhighest remedy to clear darkness\, \nEnter the hearts of all living beings\,\nso their perfect path be illumined! \n  \nFootnote to Prayer for World Peace:  In the name of all religions on earth\, as I see and hear of increasingly many unwarranted harmful actions being enacted\, thinking\, with a joyful\, universal aspiration\, how wonderful it would be if all such activities ceased entirely.  Khenpo Karten Rinpoche\, on 2-4-2015\, on Wednesday\, His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s auspicious day\, wrote this dedication prayer to be recited at the conclusion of other prayers\, meditation\, or practices. \nImages:  Header is from 2020 summer solstice\, photographer unknown\, same for first of the three combined photos–last two are from 2017 summer solstice\, photographer Bill Cox. \n

This year\, the moon will be full over the evening of Thursday\, March 13th into the early hours of Friday\, March 14th.   Additionally\, this year\, there will be a total lunar eclipse visible on the west coast at roughly 11pm Pacific Time\, and 2am Eastern.  On this auspicious day\, we rejoice that Khenpo Karten Rinpoche is giving Amitabha teachings to our Taiwan Dharma family–Khenpo La’s international sangha can join in via Zoom on this special occasion–see the Zoom link and details here:  2025 Amitabha Retreat in Taiwan \nLearn More: The Story of the 15 Days of Miracles\, Rigpa Wiki-Brief Explanation of Chotrul Duchen \nLearn More:  Total Lunar Eclipse March 13-14\, 2025
