SUMMARY:Monday Night Chanted Prayers--Chenrezig Practice
DESCRIPTION:Avalokiteshvara\, or Chenrezig in Tibetan\, is the Bodhisattva who embodies the love and compassion of all Buddhas. Chenrezig is an important deity* in Tibet and considered the patron Bodhisattva of the Tibetan people. Chenrezig is also believed by Tibetans to be the actual progenitor of the Tibetan people.  His Holiness the Dalai Lama and His Holiness the Karmapa are considered living Buddhas\, emanations of Chenrezig. It is said that in Tibet even babies upon birth know the mantra OM MANI PADME HUM.\n\nChanted prayers are an important part of spiritual life\, regardless of where you are at on the path.  They allow us to still our minds\, connect with the blessings of the Buddhas\, and purify negative karma.   With these prayers we transform ourselves and our world into pure beings and pure lands\, free from suffering\, and connect with the energies of love and compassion.  Appropriate for beginners and seasoned practitioners alike.  Prayer books provided.  Donations are not expected\, but always welcome. \n\n\n*The word deity in Buddhist context is not the same as in the west.  A deity may have many meanings\, but one meaning is the timeless energies that are also within us\, rather than all-knowing beings outside ourselves. \n\nMonday night prayers are held both in-person at the Dharma Center and virtually on Zoom.\n\nText: https://manjushridharmacenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/ChenrezigPracticeText.pdf\n\nPlease do join us for this profound practice. SUMMARY:Monday Night Chanted Prayers - Green Tara Practice
DESCRIPTION:The feminine embodiment of enlightened activity\, Green Tara is the swift liberator\, a compassionate and loving protector in times of distress and great danger. Through meditating on the form and mantra Arya Tara\, and chanting the Praises to her 21 different manifestations\, we receive the blessings to become inseparable from Tara herself\, actualizing the potential to liberate all sentient beings from the suffering ocean of samsara.  She is known as the Mother of all Buddhas\, born from Chenrezig’s tear of compassion (in one of many origin stories). She will swiftly come to comfort and protect those who supplicate her\, she gives protection from emotional and physical sufferings. In her hands she holds utpala flowers which symbolize power and pure compassionate intention. \n“This is also my daily practice\,” writes Rinpoche.  “We will pray for overcoming fear and clearing of obstacles. We will recite the mantra “OM TARE TUTTARE TURE SOHA “.  You can see me and recite the mantra at the same time so we can practice together for those who have recently died. Thank you and Tashi Delek.” \nPrayers will be recited in both Tibetan and English. \nText:\n\nMain prayer text\, courtesy of KTD Publications in Woodstock NY (for students only\, please do not make or distribute printed copies):  Green Tara Sadhana of Chokgyur Dechen Lingpa\nSupplemental texts:\n\nConcise Tara Prayer by Lama Gephel\nGreenTara-Sevenfold Supplication by Drikung Kyobpa Jikten Sumgon\n\n\n\nDescription of the Tara practice above was written by Khenpo Karten Rinpoche.  Image courtesy of Miles McBreen. \nMonday night prayers are held both in-person at the Dharma Center and virtually on Zoom. \n\n\nPlease do join us for this profound practice. SUMMARY:Welcome Home Rinpoche! Kata Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:The community is invited to gather at the Manjushri Dharma Center to welcome back our teacher with warmth and enthusiasm on Tuesday\, September 3rd\, 2024 between 2pm and 3pm.   Rinpoche’s flight gets in at 2pm to the Monterey Airport\, and we anticipate he’ll be arriving at the center around 2:40pm–but never any firm guarantees with flights and tired travelers! \nWe will line up upon his arrival and present katas: white\, ceremonial scarves that are a sign of respect and symbolic blessings. We have plenty of these available at the center\, or byo!  Participants are encouraged to bring offerings such as flowers for the alter and food for Rinpoche:  fruits\, vegetables\, or healthy\, homemade meals to stock Rinpoche’s refrigerator. (No sugary sweets please). Participants may also bring snacks for the community to enjoy while we await Rinpoche’s arrival. \nCome enjoy visiting together and help to welcome home Rinpoche!

SUMMARY:Blessing of the Butterflies 2024
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, Khenpo Karten Rinpoche prays together with the Pacific Grove community for the monarch butterflies as they make their epic 3000 mile migration\, stopping at the Pacific Grove Monarch Sanctuary.  The monarchs need prayers more than ever. \nTypically in October\, monarch butterflies cluster together on pine\, cypress and eucalyptus trees in the Sanctuary. Their migration to Pacific Grove is so unique that Pacific Grove is nicknamed ‘Butterfly Town\, U.S.A.’ The community has always welcomed the butterflies and advocated for their protection. Citizens of Pacific Grove voted to create an additional tax to create the Monarch Grove Sanctuary which is cared for by dedicated volunteers. \nThe Monarch Grove Sanctuary is located at 250 Ridge Road\, Pacific Grove\, CA\, 93950. \nDirections and More information:  https://www.cityofpacificgrove.org/visiting/monarch-butterfly-sanctuary \nNote:  Description drawn from the City of Pacific Grove website.

It is said that in Tibet even babies upon birth know the mantra OM MANI PADME HUM.\nChanted prayers are an important part of spiritual life\, regardless of where you are at on the path. \nMonday night prayers are held both in-person at the Dharma Center and virtually on Zoom. \nPlease do join us for this profound practice. (Exceptions can be made for those with back problems or leg problems or anyone who needs to stretch their legs–use a scarf or cloth to cover your feet as you extend and stretch is good.)\nDress modestly\, don’t show too much bare skin or wear super-tight or revealing clothing\nFeel free to move and adjust your sitting position\, but try not to disturb others; as you leave make a slight bow to the altar/teacher before turning away\nAt the end of the whole retreat\, there will be a “kata ceremony” where white silk scarves are presented to Rinpoche as a sign of respect and thanks\, and typically attendees also give “dana” at this time–a special monetary offering.   Please bring your own kata if you have one.  Dana should be concealed in an envelope.\n\n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Monday Night Chanted Prayers - Green Tara Practice
DESCRIPTION:Note:  Tonight will be a short practice\, as Rinpoche needs to make an important phone call.  If you can Zoom in\, please do\, and all who attend in person\, please depart in a prompt and timely manner. \nThe feminine embodiment of enlightened activity\, Green Tara is the swift liberator\, a compassionate and loving protector in times of distress and great danger. \nTexts:\n\nMain prayer text\, courtesy of KTD Publications in Woodstock NY (for students only\, please do not make or distribute printed copies):  Green Tara Sadhana of Chokgyur Dechen Lingpa\nSupplemental texts:\n\nConcise Tara Prayer by Lama Gephel\nGreenTara-Sevenfold Supplication by Drikung Kyobpa Jikten Sumgon\n\n\n\nDescription of the Tara practice above was written by Khenpo Karten Rinpoche.  Image courtesy of Miles McBreen. \nMonday night prayers are held both in-person at the Dharma Center and virtually on Zoom. \n\n\nPlease do join us for this profound practice. SUMMARY:Monday Night Chanted Prayers--Chenrezig Practice
DESCRIPTION:Avalokiteshvara\, or Chenrezig in Tibetan\, is the Bodhisattva who embodies the love and compassion of all Buddhas. Chenrezig is an important deity in Tibet and considered the patron Bodhisattva of the Tibetan people. Chenrezig is also believed by Tibetans to be the actual progenitor of the Tibetan people.  His Holiness the Dalai Lama and His Holiness the Karmapa are considered living Buddhas\, emanations of Chenrezig. It is said that in Tibet even babies upon birth know the mantra OM MANI PADME HUM.\nChanted prayers are an important part of spiritual life\, regardless of where you are at on the path. \nMonday night prayers are held both in-person at the Dharma Center and virtually on Zoom. \nPlease do join us for this profound practice.
