SUMMARY:Monday Night Chanted Prayers - Green Tara Practice
DESCRIPTION:Note* Monday night prayers are held both in-person at the Dharma Center and virtually on Zoom. \nThe feminine embodiment of enlightened activity\, Green Tara is the swift liberator\, a compassionate and loving protector in times of distress and great danger. Through meditating on the form and mantra Arya Tara\, and chanting the Praises to her 21 different manifestations\, we receive the blessings to become inseparable from Tara herself\, actualizing the potential to liberate all motherly sentient beings from the suffering ocean of samsara. \nShe is known as the Mother of all Buddhas\, born from Chenrezig’s tear of compassion. She will swiftly come to comfort and protect those who supplicate her. Especially from emotional\, and physical sufferings. In her hands she holds utpala flowers which symbolize power and purity. \nThis is also my daily practice; we will pray for overcoming fear and clearing of obstacles. Also pray for those who have passed away from coronavirus.   We will recite the mantra “OM TARE TUTTARE TURE SOHA “.  You can see me and recite the mantra at the same time so we can practice together for those who have recently died. Thank you and Tashi Delek. \nPrayers will be recited in both Tibetan and English. \nText:\n\nMain prayer text\, courtesy of KTD Publications in Woodstock NY (for students only\, please do not make or distribute printed copies):  Green Tara Sadhana of Chokgyur Dechen Lingpa\nSupplemental texts:\n\nConcise Tara Prayer by Lama Gephel\nGreenTara-Sevenfold Supplication by Drikung Kyobpa Jikten Sumgon\n\n\n\nDescription of the Tara practice above was written by Khenpo Karten Rinpoche.  Image courtesy of Miles McBreen.\n \n\nZoom Link to Join: \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/86274306749?pwd=MHhxUmtQZlVmWDJKUklSS3QvV05rdz09\nMeeting ID: 862 7430 6749\nPasscode: Love=Peace\nOne tap mobile\n+16699009128\,\,86274306749#\,\,\,\,*4723131265# US (San Jose)\n+16694449171\,\,86274306749#\,\,\,\,*4723131265# US\n\n\nDial by your location\n        +1 669 900 9128 US (San Jose)\n        +1 669 444 9171 US\n        +1 719 359 4580 US\n        +1 253 205 0468 US\n        +1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\n        +1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)\n        +1 564 217 2000 US\n        +1 646 558 8656 US (New York)\n        +1 646 931 3860 US\n        +1 689 278 1000 US\n        +1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC)\n        +1 305 224 1968 US\n        +1 309 205 3325 US\n        +1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\n        +1 360 209 5623 US\n        +1 386 347 5053 US\n        +1 507 473 4847 US\nMeeting ID: 862 7430 6749\nPasscode: 4723131265\nFind your local number: https://us02web.zoom.us/u/kdVGgCWTHU

SUMMARY:Saturday Morning: Precious Garland of the Supreme Path Online
DESCRIPTION:Instructions of Gampopa:  A Precious Garland of the Supreme Path\nTeachings and Oral Transmission with Khenpo Karten Rinpoche\nSaturdays until completed\n9:00am – 10:30am Pacific Time (time updated as of 11/27/2021)\nOnline via Zoom\, link below\nAll welcome to join at any time\nFree of charge\, but donations always welcome\n \nAlthough he lived long ago\, Gampopa is someone who can relate to the suffering and turmoil of modern times. Gampopa\, a medical doctor of his time\, lived through a pandemic in Tibet\, losing his son\, daughter\, and his wife. In his intense suffering\, he sought relief by becoming a monk\, and studying the Dharma (teachings of the Buddha Shakyamuni). He entered the Kadampa order\, learning many texts and becoming well versed in the Dharma\, but it was Milarepa\, the fully enlightened yogi of Tibet\, who became his root guru.  Under Milarepa’s teachings\, he learned the visualization practice of tantra.  He combined the step-by-step\, graduated path and logic of the Kadam master Atisha\, with the tantric practice of Milarepa\, and founded the “practice lineage\,” the Karma Kagyu. \n“Gampopa\, the father of the Kagyu tradition in Tibet\, wrote a number of commentaries on Buddha’s teachings. The most notable are The Jewel Ornament of Liberation and A Precious Garland of the Supreme Path. In A Precious Garland\, Gampopa gives precise instructions on what is needed to develop one’s understanding\, meditation and conduct on the spiritual path. Gampopa succinctly outlines in twenty-eight categories what we need to know in order to perfect our spiritual practice*.” \nThis is the fourth text by Gampopa that Khenpo Karten Rinpoche has taught at the Manjushri Dharma Center. Previously he taught the Jewel Ornament of Liberation\, and next he taught on his succinct commentary called the “Excellent Path Of Freedom\, The Jewel Ornament of Liberation in Brief\,” and most recently he taught on the Four Dharmas of Gampopa.   In the Four Dharmas of Gampopa\, one line says:  “May the Dharma become the Path.”   The Precious Garland of the Supreme Path addresses the many facets of turning the Dharma into the Path:  bullet points for right actions and intentions.  In addition\, the text includes many inspiring and poetic descriptions of the ultimate nature of mind and reality.   The text will be shown on the screen\, and resources to purchase or download a free version are below.  There will be time made for questions and answers at the end of the class periodically.   Please join us for the this precious series of teachings! \n\nZoom Link to Join: \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/86345470369?pwd=Mk1QQmFXVEdkd1N3RWlrbllNWXNFQT09\nMeeting ID: 863 4547 0369\nPasscode: Peace=Love \nOne tap mobile\n+16699009128\,\,86345470369#\,\,\,\,*4296739108# US (San Jose)\n+13462487799\,\,86345470369#\,\,\,\,*4296739108# US (Houston) \nDial by your location\n+1 669 900 9128 US (San Jose)\n+1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)\n+1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\n+1 646 558 8656 US (New York)\n+1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC)\n+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago) \nMeeting ID: 863 4547 0369\nPhone Passcode: 4296739108 (no participant ID\, press # to bypass)\nFind your local number: https://us02web.zoom.us/u/kD7seFIYt \n\nAbout Venerable Gampopa Sonam Rinchen:\n“Gampopa lived from 1070 to 1153. He was born in Central Tibet and trained as a doctor. At age 26\, when his family succumbed to an epidemic\, he promised his wife on her deathbed that he would become a monk and devote his life to Buddhism. He eventually met the great yogi Milarepa and became his foremost student. He founded the system of Mahamudra which combines the tantric teachings of the great siddhas of India with the graduated path teachings of Atisha.*” \n*Note:  The general description of the text and Gampopa’s life is credited and quoted from Shambala Publications: https://www.shambhala.com/snowlion_articles/the-instructions-of-gampopa/ \n\nAbout the Venerable Khenpo Karten Rinpoche\n\n \nKhenpo Karten Rinpoche is an accomplished teacher and practitioner of the Karma Kagyu Lineage and is also trained in the Nyingma Lineage of Buddhism. He was born in the beautiful mountains of the Himalayas of Tibet.  At the age of twelve\, he was ordained at Ja-pa monastery\, where he began his formal education of reading\, writing and ritual practice. At the age of fifteen having completed the basic studies\, he furthered his studies in the Sutra and Tantric texts under the accomplished master Khenchen Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche and Pema Tsewang Rinpoche for eight years. Subsequently Khenpo Karten Rinpoche went to the hermitage of anther accomplished teacher\, Sangye Tenzin Rinpoche and completed five years of retreat under the great master. In the retreat he completed the practices of the Naropa’s six yoga\, Mahamudra and many others.  In recognition of his achievements\, Sangye Tenzin Ringpoche bestowed upon him the title\, Khenpo Karma Lekshe Tharchin in 1994. \nIn 1996\, he left Tibet and traveled to Dharamsala\, India to meet His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Upon His Holiness’ advice\, he spent another two years doing retreat. H.H Dalai Lama also recognizing his achievement\, bestowed upon him the title Khenpo Rinpoche. After his retreat\, Khenpo Karten Rinpoche was requested by H.E Tai Situ Rinpoche to go to the monastery of Venerable Tsoknyi Rinpoche\, to teach the young monks there. \nKhenpo Karten arrived in the United States in 2008\, and taught in the Monterey Bay area for the first time in September of that year. After meeting a group of prospective students and seeing the hills of Big Sur which remind him of Tibet\, he returned in 2009 to make the Monterey Bay his permanent home. Since then\, Rinpoche has established the Manjushri Dharma Center (MDC) in Pacific Grove\, California\, which has become his main teaching location and his home residence.  With unflinching faith in the precious Buddha Dharma\, Khenpo Karten Rinpoche\, now a U.S. citizen\, bestows sacred teachings to thousands of people all over the world\, with weekly teachings and events. \n\nAbout the SUMMARY:Wednesday Night Chanted Prayers Online-Guru Rinpoche
DESCRIPTION:Guru Rinpoche\, also known as Padmasambhava or the Precious Master\, is the founder of Tibetan Buddhism. He established the Buddhadharma in Tibet\, and then developed the practice so that all the teachings of Buddha were preserved as a living tradition that has continued down to the present day. \nTrinley Nyingpo\, the “Essence of Enlightened Activity\,” is the concise Guru Rinpoche sadhana practice from the Tugdrub Barche Kunsel\, a hidden treasure teaching discovered by the King of Treasure Revealers\, Chogyur Dechen Lingpa in the mid-19th century. \nThe central visualization for this practice is a triad of deities of the Three Kayas (“Enlightened Bodies”): the Dharmakaya Buddha Amitayus\, the Samboghakaya Buddha Avalokitesvara\, and the Nirmanakaya Buddha Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche). It also includes twelve additional manifestations of Guru Rinpoche. \nOutwardly\, Guru Rinpoche was a fully enlightened being who was invited from India by the Tibetan King Trisong Deutsen in the 8th century to establish the Vajrayana Buddhist teachings in Tibet. He personally blessed every square foot of Tibet and concealed innumerable “treasure teachings” (Terma) for future generations to receive and practice when the time was especially right. Trinley Nyingpo is one such terma. \nInwardly\, Guru Rinpoche is the embodiment of all the Wisdom Gurus of the past\, present\, and future\, and the essence of our own enlightened mind. \nPrayers will be recited in both Tibetan and English. \nVia Facebook Live:  Manjushri Dharma Center Facebook\nMain text:  Trinley Nyingpo\, the “Essence of Enlightened Activity\,” is the concise Guru Rinpoche sadhana practice from the Tugdrub Barche Kunsel \nLineage text: Thugdrup Barched Kunsel Lineage Prayer \nAbbreviated text:  Awakening to the Guru’s Pure Vision \nImage from Flickr\, artist Wonderlane\, public domain image

\n\nAbout the Text\nInstructions of Gampopa:  A Precious Garland of the Supreme Path was written roughly 900 years ago\, and there are many translations in many languages. \n\nHere is a Tibetan version of the text\, and please email rachelmdc2016@gmail.com for an English version.\nAn English version\, translated by Lama Yeshe Gyamtso and Laura Roth\, can be purchased from Snow Lion publication\, with SUMMARY:Wednesday Night Chanted Prayers Online-The Guru Practice\, Rain of Blessings
DESCRIPTION:In my lineage\, the Guru is everything. He is Three Jewels and the Three Roots. For me\, my Root Guru Kyabje Sangye Tenzin Rinpoche is the Buddha\, the Dharma\, and the Sangha. We are truly fortunate to be his followers and to celebrate a fully enlightened Buddha who came to this world in the form of a human being; his loving-kindness can never be repaid! Even though we don’t see him with our physical eyes\, he watches over us like a sighted person taking care of the blind. Don’t think that you have never met my Guru; if you have faith and devotion\, he definitely extends his compassion to you and we will all receive an unceasing rain of blessings. Everyone who has become the disciple of this Guru should rejoice!\n\nTo commemorate the loving-kindness of my Root Guru\, we will hold the profound practice of Guru Yoga with the text “The Guru Practice\, Rain of Blessings” composed by His Holiness the Karmapa and myself. You can find a link to the text below:\n\nThe Guru Practice\, Rain of Blessings \n\nThe profound practice of Guru Yoga is part of my main practice\, and I always pray The Essence Request\, as follows:\n\nI pray to the precious Guru;\nGrant your blessing so that my mind may give up ego-clinging. Grant your blessing so that contentment may arise in my being. Grant your blessing so that non-Dharmic thoughts may cease. Grant your blessing so that my own mind may be realized as unborn.\nGrant your blessing so that illusion may be pacified in itself.\nGrant your blessing so that phenomena may be realized as Dharmakaya.\n\nPlease do not miss this most auspicious opportunity! Tashi Delek\n\nVia Facebook Live:  Manjushri Dharma Center Facebook\nWritten by Khenpo Karten Rinpoche

SUMMARY:Monday Night Chanted Prayers Online–Padmasambhava Guru Yoga
\nMain text:  Trinley Nyingpo\, the “Essence of Enlightened Activity\,” is the concise Guru Rinpoche sadhana practice from the Tugdrub Barche Kunsel \nLineage text: Thugdrup Barched Kunsel Lineage Prayer \nAbbreviated text:  Awakening to the Guru’s Pure Vision \n\n\nLink to Join Prayer Practice via Zoom:  Monday Night Prayer Practice\nPassword required:  WorldPeace\nOr join by phone (your normal phone charges may apply):\nUS: +1 669 900 6833 or +1 346 248 7799 or +1 253 215 8782 or +1 646 876 9923 or +1 301 715 8592 or +1 312 626 6799\nMeeting ID: 970 1801 1835\nInternational numbers available: https://middlebury.zoom.us/u/abeH9hRvO3\nPhone Password: 470102 \n

DESCRIPTION:The feminine embodiment of enlightened activity\, Green Tara is the swift liberator\, a compassionate and loving protector in times of distress and great danger. DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, June 24\nFire Puja (Riwo Sangchod)-In Person \n10:00 am at Manjushri Dharma Center (backyard)\nIn Person Event\, masks and social distance required\n724 Forest Avenue\, Pacific Grove\n \nOn Thursday\, June 24th beginning at 10:00am in the backyard of the Manjushri Dharma Center (724 Forest Avenue) Khenpo Karten Rinpoche will offer the Riwo Sangchod\, the Mountain Smoke Offering practice.   All attendees must wear masks and maintain social distance. \n“Riwo Sangchö\, The Mountain Smoke Offering’\, comes from the viewpoint of Dzogchen. It is really the best practice to remove obstacles and fulfil both temporary and long-term wishes. The smoke offering is made to all wisdom beings\, to the Three Jewels\, the Three Roots and Dharma Protectors\, and the Three Kayas. Offering to the wisdom beings helps us to accumulate merit and wisdom. This brings short-term happiness and ultimate enlightenment. We also offer to all demonic beings who are actually manifestations of our karmic debt. These karmic debtors cause obstacles of all kinds\, both temporary in this life and also long-term obstacles to enlightenment. Through this offering\, karmic debtors are repaid\, removing all of these obstacles. This is really the best technique.” –Lama Tharchin Rinpoche

SUMMARY:Summer Solstice Blessing of the Waters
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, June 21st 2023 is the summer solstice\, the longest day of the year.  For many years now\, at both summer and winter solstices\, Khenpo Karten Rinpoche offers a Blessing of the Waters\, by reciting two prayers that he composed\, Propitiating the Devas of the Four Elements and the Prayer for World Peace.  This year\, we will meet again in person.  We will gather in community and send our good energy to the ocean\, to all the waters of the world\, and to all of nature and humanity.  Attendees are asked to bring flower petals/flowers for the offering. \nBecause this practice is on the beach\, there is no opportunity for us to also broadcast online (as far as known). \nThis practice may also be done by any person in they place they live.  Practitioners may download these prayers to recite at the beach\, by a river\, or wherever you choose outside in nature.  Bring some flowers to offer and send your good energy and wishes for healing to the waters of the world\, all the elements of nature\, and all sentient beings. \nAdditionally\, here is an “instruction on how to practice” the Blessing of the Waters\, composed by Rinpoche and Pema/Aaron with more information on how to  conduct a “do-it-yourself” Blessing of the Waters ceremony. \nInstructions on Blessing the Waters \nTashi Delek! \nPrayer for World Peace \nThrough roots of goodness of us all on this vast earth\, \nMay all living creatures become full of\nlove and compassion\, \nSo that all enjoy peace on earth! \nStop bad intentions\, thoughts and deeds\nof all those who terrorize others\, \nThat all living beings on this earth\ncome together like one family! \nMay all be well\, have long life and health\nwith bliss of mind\, free of illusion. \nMay all mothers have oceans of bliss\nof body\, for now\, and ultimately of mind. \nMay this lamp of wisdom love\, oneness\,\nhighest remedy to clear darkness\, \nEnter the hearts of all living beings\,\nso their perfect path be illumined! \nFootnote:  In the name of all religions on earth\, as I see and hear of increasingly many unwarranted harmful actions being enacted\, thinking\, with a joyful\, universal aspiration\, how wonderful it would be if all such activities ceased entirely.  Khenpo Karten Rinpoche\, on 2-4-2015\, on Wednesday\, His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s auspicious day\, wrote this dedication prayer to be recited at the conclusion of other prayers\, meditation\, or practices. \n

SUMMARY:Monday Night Chanted Prayers Online-Green Tara Practice
DESCRIPTION:The feminine embodiment of enlightened activity\, Green Tara is the swift liberator\, a compassionate and loving protector in times of distress and great danger. (Prayer text will be shown on screen\, but we don’t have permission yet to add to our website) \nWritten by Khenpo Karten Rinpoche\, adapted for the Monday night session.  \n  \nLink to Join Prayer Practice via Zoom:  Monday Night Prayer Practice\nPassword required:  WorldPeace\n  \nOr join by phone (your normal phone charges may apply):\nUS: +1 669 900 6833 or +1 346 248 7799 or +1 253 215 8782 or +1 646 876 9923 or +1 301 715 8592 or +1 312 626 6799\nMeeting ID: 970 1801 1835\nInternational numbers available: https://middlebury.zoom.us/u/abeH9hRvO3\nPhone Password: 470102 (phone password only\, no participant ID\, press # to bypass)
