SUMMARY:Monday Night Chanted Prayers Online-Chöd Practice
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Monday at 6:30PM PST on Zoom for the practice of Chöd.\n\n\nHere is the text for the practice:  The Longchen Nyingthig CHÖD PRACTICE\, “The Loud Laugh of the Dakini.”\n\n\nChöd\, which means “to cut\,” is a profound path of severing dualistic fixation and ego-clinging. For the chod practitioner\, the body is regarded as the primary object of clinging. Through visualizing one’s consciousness as the female Buddha T’hroma Nagmo (The “Wrathful Black Mother”) the yogi or yogini offers the ordinary body to the assembled guests: enlightened beings\, gods and demons (personifications of the five poisons)\, and those owed karmic debts\, purifying negative karma and accumulating merit on a vast scale. Combining the view of the Prajnaparamita Sutra with the highest view of Dzogchen\, Chöd is known for its haunting melodies and ritual instrumentation. When performed for others\, it is a powerful healing ritual.\n\n\n\n\nOnline via the MDC Zoom:  \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/86345470369?pwd=Mk1QQmFXVEdkd1N3RWlrbllNWXNFQT09\nMeeting ID: 863 4547 0369\nPassword required: Peace=Love

SUMMARY:Monday Night Chanted Prayers Online-Amitabha Practice
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, May 31st at 6:30 PM PST on ZOOM\, we will hold a very special Amitabha Puja where we will be joined by the accomplished pianist and my longtime friend Michael Martinez of Pacific Grove California. Michael will play his piano along with the chanting of the Amitabha Buddha Mantra\, “OM AMI DEWA HRIH”. This will be a shortened version of our usual practice of “The Recitation for Accomplishment of Sukhavati from the Sky Dharma Mind Terma”. This Amitabha Puja has been a part of my practice for quite a long time because this was also a part of my Root Guru\, Sangye Tenzin Rinpoche’s practice.  Amitabha is the Buddha in the Western Pureland of Bliss\, known as Sukhavati or Dewachen in Tibetan. Amitabha\, known as the Buddha of Infinite Light\, is claimed by the Buddhas of the ten directions as the King of All Buddhas; Buddha Amitabha is a very important deity of love\, compassion\, and wisdom.  Please do join us for this very special occasion!\nBuddha Amitabha is the Buddha of Infinite Light.  Our main text:      The Recitation for Accomplishment of Sukhavati from the Sky Dharma Mind Terma. \nWe also have a shorter text for reference:  Amitabha Prayer Practice.   \nPlease join us as we wish for all beings to have health and peace of mind. \nLink to Join Prayer Practice via Zoom:  Monday Night Prayer Practice\nPassword required:  WorldPeace\n  \nOr join by phone (your normal phone charges may apply):\nUS: +1 669 900 6833 or +1 346 248 7799 or +1 253 215 8782 or +1 646 876 9923 or +1 301 715 8592 or +1 312 626 6799\nMeeting ID: 970 1801 1835\nInternational numbers available: https://middlebury.zoom.us/u/abeH9hRvO3\nPhone Password: 470102 (phone password only\, no participant ID\, press # to bypass)

SUMMARY:Saga Dawa Duchen Amitabha Tsog Offering & The King of Aspiration Prayers-Online
DESCRIPTION:Saga Dawa is the most significant “merit multiplying month ” for Vajrayana Practitioners and Tibetan Buddhism in general.  In Tibetan\, “Dawa” refers to the whole “month” and “Saga” is the name of a star  in the sky which appears especially brighter during the fourth lunar month. Saga Dawa begins May 12\,2021 up until June 10\, 2021.  The 15th day of this fourth lunar month which is the full moon is called Saga Dawa Duchen.   Wednesday\, May 26\, 2021 is the full moon celebration this year.  This is the most important day of the year for all Vajrayana practitioners.   It commemorates the birth\, enlightenment\, and parinirvana of Lord Buddha Shakyamuni. (more from Rinpoche below) \nSaga Dawa Duchen 2021\nWednesday\, May 26th\n5:00pm to 8:00pm Pacific Time\nOnline via Zoom.  Zoom link below.\n(please note:  Weds. night practice is typically on Facebook\, however this special event will not be on Facebook.  Please join the Zoom link below) \n\nZOOM Link to Join:  Saga Dawa Prayer Practice\nPassword required:  WorldPeace\nOr join by phone (your normal phone charges may apply):\nUS: +1 669 900 6833 or +1 346 248 7799 or +1 253 215 8782 or +1 646 876 9923 or +1 301 715 8592 or +1 312 626 6799\nMeeting ID: 970 1801 1835\nInternational numbers available: https://middlebury.zoom.us/u/abeH9hRvO3\nPhone Password: 470102 (no participant ID\, press # to bypass) \nTexts & Practice:\nWe will use two texts for the event\, The Recitation for Accomplishment of Sukhavati from the Sky Dharma Mind Terma by  (though we will abbreviate)\, and the The King of Aspiration Prayers: Samantabhadra’s “Aspiration to Good Actions” (Zangchö Mönlam) from the Gaṇḍavyūha chapter of the Avataṃsaka sūtra.   Additionally\, we will conduct an Amitabha Tsog Offering. \n\nThe Recitation for Accomplishment of Sukhavati from the Sky Dharma Mind Terma.\nThe King of Aspiration Prayers: Samantabhadra’s “Aspiration to Good Actions” (Zangchö Mönlam)\n\nAbout Saga Dawa\, written by Khenpo Karten Rinpoche 2021:\nWednesday\, May 12\, marked the beginning of the month of Saga Dawa which will end on June 10\, 2021. This is the most auspicious month in the Tibetan lunar calendar. In Tibetan\, “Saga” means fourth and is also the name of a star which is prominent in the sky during the fourth lunar month; “Dawa” refers to the whole month. Saga Dawa is sacred because in this month\, three monumental events — the birth\, enlightenment\, and nirvana of Lord Buddha Shakyamuni — are all believed to have taken place. Because of this\, throughout the month of Saga Dawa\, there is a great multiplying effect of the meritorious and demeritorious actions of body\, speech\, and mind by 100\,000 times. Throughout this month\, any positive actions such as doing solitary retreats\, meditation\, prostrations\, or any other form of virtuous Dharmic activities made through the body\, speech\, and mind will be multiplied by 100\,000. In the same way\, any unwholesome or negative activities will also be multiplied by 100\,000. \nThe 15th day of this lunar month is a full moon and is called Saga Dawa Duchen. This year\, Saga Dawa Duchen will take place on Wednesday\, May 26. Saga Dawa Duchen\, the “Great Occasion” of the month of Saga Dawa\, commemorates the birth\, enlightenment\, and parinirvana of Lord Buddha Shakyamuni\, the supreme and perfect Guru. The fifteenth day of the month is very special as the birth of Buddha Shakyamuni\, which refers to the day the consciousness of the Buddha entered his mother’s womb rather than His physical birth. At the age of 35\, the Buddha attained enlightenment at Bodhgaya. This day also marks the anniversary of His parinirvana at Kushinagara at the age of 80. This is the single most important day of the year for all Vajrayana practitioners and Tibetan Buddhists. Therefore\, this month represents a great opportunity to commemorate and honor the Buddha\, and to accumulate merit and purify our body\, speech\, and mind. This month only occurs once a year\, so please wholeheartedly practice the Dharma during this precious time! Tashi Delek \nAbout Saga Dawa\, from Pema Tsultrim\, 2020\n\nAny positive actions like doing month long retreats\, meditation\, making lamp offerings\, prostrations\, animal liberation\, the six paramitas or any other form of virtuous Dharma activities made by the body \,speech and mind during this whole month will be multipled 100\,000 times. In the same way\, any unwholesome or negative activities will also be multipled 100\,000 times. \nA beneficial opportunity during this special month might be the motivation for all of us to renew or re-energize our practice. During this time\, one might do such practices as committing to reading a Buddhist book on a topic you have wanted to explore in more depth\, spending a bit more time each day on your meditation cushion\, and trying ways in which you can express more kindness and compassion for all beings around you. Specific activities that create much merit during this month include: making a generous donation offering to a dharma center or charity\, and performing volunteer services for the organization of your choice. \nStepping up your activities by creating a more structured practice period for yourself during this month will result in the creation of great merit\, benefiting yourself and others. Please don’t miss this opportunity to advance your practice during the most auspicious month of the entire Tibetan year. And we hope to see you at the Saga Dawa Duchen celebration on May 26! \nAbout Tsog Offering:\nIn the teaching on the 8 extremes\, coming/going\, infinite/finite\, singular/plural\, existance/non-existance–we are asked to see a pure view that incorporates and transcends the labels.  The Tsog offering honors the divine within.  Rinpoche often reminds us\, that although we visualize Buddha Amitabha (Buddha of Infinite Light) in the space before us\,  that Buddha Amitabha and all the divine energies are also within us.  In a Tsog Offering\, participants place tsog offerings like flowers and edible offerings:  fruits\, biscuits\, cheese/crackers\, nuts\, and (for those who have Highest Tantra initiation) a small amount of meat and alcohol\, on their alter.  Participants will eat a small amount of the offerings to honor the divine within\, and offer a portions to the divine without. It is a beautiful practice to accumulate merit and purify obscurations. SUMMARY:Wednesday Night Chanted Prayers Online--Padmasambhava Guru Yoga
DESCRIPTION:Guru Rinpoche\, also known as Padmasambhava or the Precious Master\, is the founder of Tibetan Buddhism. He established the Buddhadharma in Tibet\, and then developed the practice so that all the teachings of Buddha were preserved as a living tradition that has continued down to the present day. \nTrinley Nyingpo\, the “Essence of Enlightened Activity\,” is the concise Guru Rinpoche sadhana practice from the Tugdrub Barche Kunsel\, a hidden treasure teaching discovered by the King of Treasure Revealers\, Chogyur Dechen Lingpa in the mid-19th century. \nThe central visualization for this practice is a triad of deities of the Three Kayas (“Enlightened Bodies”): the Dharmakaya Buddha Amitayus\, the Samboghakaya Buddha Avalokitesvara\, and the Nirmanakaya Buddha Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche). SUMMARY:Monday Night Chanted Prayers Online-Green Tara Practice
DESCRIPTION:The feminine embodiment of enlightened activity\, Green Tara is the swift liberator\, a compassionate and loving protector in times of distress and great danger. Through meditating on the form and mantra Arya Tara\, and chanting the Praises to her 21 different manifestations\, we receive the blessings to become inseparable from Tara herself\, actualizing the potential to liberate all motherly sentient beings from the suffering ocean of samsara. \nShe is known as the Mother of all Buddhas\, born from Chenrezig’s tear of compassion. She will swiftly come to comfort and protect those who supplicate her. Especially from emotional\, and physical sufferings. In her hands she holds utpala flowers which symbolize power and purity. \nThis is also my daily practice; we will pray for overcoming fear and clearing of obstacles. Also pray for those who have passed away from coronavirus.   We will recite the mantra “OM TARE TUTTARE TURE SOHA “.  You can see me and recite the mantra at the same time so we can practice together for those who have recently died. Thank you and Tashi Delek. \nPrayers will be recited in both Tibetan and English.  (Prayer text will be shown on screen\, but we don’t have permission yet to add to our website) \nWritten by Khenpo Karten Rinpoche\, adapted for the Monday night session.  \n  \nLink to Join Prayer Practice via Zoom:  Monday Night Prayer Practice\nPassword required:  WorldPeace\n  \nOr join by phone (your normal phone charges may apply):\nUS: +1 669 900 6833 or +1 346 248 7799 or +1 253 215 8782 or +1 646 876 9923 or +1 301 715 8592 or +1 312 626 6799\nMeeting ID: 970 1801 1835\nInternational numbers available: https://middlebury.zoom.us/u/abeH9hRvO3\nPhone Password: 470102 (phone password only\, no participant ID\, press # to bypass)

SUMMARY:Sunday Afternoon-Rinpoche Part of Weekend Metta Sutra Retreat
DESCRIPTION:This Sunday\, February 28 at 1:00pm\, Khenpo Karten Rinpoche will give a Dharma talk as part of a three-day\, weekend retreat at the Mount Adams Buddhist Temple at Trout Lake Abbey.  The retreat begins Friday\, Feb. 26 and runs through Sunday\, Feb.28\, 2021.  You can see all the details of the weekend retreat\, entitled “3-Day Buddhist Mahayana Retreat on Metta and Practice\,” hosted by the Venerable Thich Minh Tinh (Thay Kozen). \nAttendees at the January weekend retreat hosted by Manjushri Dharma Center will recall that Thay Kozen taught on the Metta Sutra during our retreat\, and taught these beautiful verses and practice: \n***\nEight sentences that\ncan change the world:May I be Well\nMay I be Happy\nMay I know Love\nMay I know PeaceMay you be Well\nMay you be Happy\nMay you know Love\nMay you know Peace \nStart out by holding your right hand over the center of your chest\, then place your left hand over your right one and gently hug your chest.\nThen say the above sentences.   Think of yourself as you say the “May I …”  Think first of a loved one as you say the “May you…” Then to cleanse your heart\, think of someone who has caused you pain or distress and repeat the “May you…” \nThe Buddha tells us – What we think we become.

SUMMARY:Saturday Evening--Chötrul Düchen Full Moon Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Chötrul Düchen is one of four major Tibetan Buddhist holy days\, celebrated on the first full moon after lunar new year.   It is known as the Butter Lamp Festival\, Festival of Lights\, or Great Day of Miraculous Manifestations.  It commemorates the day that Buddha Shakyamuni settled the question of his enlightenment with naysayers by performing many miracles.  This full moon day is considered a “merit multiplier” day\, with the effects of both positive and negative actions multiplied ten million times.   On this auspicious day\, we will gather online via Zoom to read The Treasury of Blessings: A Practice of Buddha Śākyamuni\, by Mipham Rinpoche\, and the Praise of the Twelve Great Deeds.  The texts will be shown on screen.   Participants may arrange an altar that can be seen on camera with flowers\, candles\, and images of Buddha.  We hope to “see” you there! \nLearn More: The Story of the 15 Days of Miracles\, Rigpa Wiki-Brief Explanation of Chotrul Duchen \nLink to Join Prayer Practice via Zoom:  Chötrul Düchen 2021 \nPassword required:  WorldPeace\nOr join by phone (your normal phone charges may apply):\nUS: +1 669 900 6833 or +1 346 248 7799 or +1 253 215 8782 or +1 646 876 9923 or +1 301 715 8592 or +1 312 626 6799\nMeeting ID: 970 1801 1835 (there is no participant number\, so press # to bypass)\nPhone Password: 470102 \nInternational numbers available: https://middlebury.zoom.us/u/abeH9hRvO3
