SUMMARY:Special Event: Four Noble Truths on Chökhor Düchen
DESCRIPTION:Please join Rinpoche and the MDC to celebrate Chökhor Düchen – ‘The First Turning of the Wheel of Dharma’ with a Buddha Shakyamuni Puja. This is an important holiday in which we honor the day that the Buddha Shakyamuni first taught after attaining enlightenment. For seven weeks after his enlightenment\, Buddha did not teach. Finally\, encouraged by Dakinis\, Indra and Brahma\, he turned the Wheel of Dharma for the first time\, at Sarnath\, by teaching the ‘Four Noble Truths’. \nWe will celebrate with a public talk on the Four Noble Truths given by Khenpo Karten Rinpoche and special prayers.  Please join us for this profound teaching on this very special occasion!  Free event\, but donations always appreciated. \nPre-Reading: Before the event\, please read Rinpoche’s in-depth Teaching and blog Essence of Buddhism As Related to the Four Noble Truths (http://www.khenpokarten.org/2019/10/normal.html) \nAbout Chökhor Düchen\nChökhor Düchen  is one of the four great occassions (Losar\, Saga Dawa\, Choekhor Duchen and Lhabab Duchen) celebrated by all Tibetan Buddhists. During those times\, it is believed that the effects of positive or negative actions are multiplied ten million times.  It falls in the Tibetan Lunar calendar in the 6th month\, 4th day.  Choekhor means “Prayer Wheel” or “Dharma Wheel”\, the common religious objects in Tibet\, and Duchen means “great occasion” in Tibetan. Hand held wheels are hollow wooden or metal cylinders attached to a handle which are printed with mantras and when turned spread spiritual blessing. Mantras invoke the attention and blessings of the Buddhas\, for example —Om Mani Padme Hum–the mantra of Chenrezig also known as Avalokiteshvara who is the Buddha of Compassion\, invokes great love\, compassion\, and wisdom.  Tradition has it that Buddha was not convinced that teaching what he had discovered through his meditations could be communicated in a way that would be of any benefit to others. It took the intercession of the great gods\, Brahma and Indra\, to persuade him to do so for the benefit of all sentient beings. The Buddha then addressed the five people who had been his companions during the time spent with the forest yogins\, and taught this first teaching–the Four Noble Truths.\n\n\n\n\nZoom Link to Join: \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/86274306749?pwd=MHhxUmtQZlVmWDJKUklSS3QvV05rdz09\nMeeting ID: 862 7430 6749\nPasscode: Love=Peace\nOne tap mobile\n+16699009128\,\,86274306749#\,\,\,\,*4723131265# US (San Jose)\n+16694449171\,\,86274306749#\,\,\,\,*4723131265# US\n\n\nDial by your location\n        +1 669 900 9128 US (San Jose)\n        +1 669 444 9171 US\n        +1 719 359 4580 US\n        +1 253 205 0468 US\n        +1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\n        +1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)\n        +1 564 217 2000 US\n        +1 646 558 8656 US (New York)\n        +1 646 931 3860 US\n        +1 689 278 1000 US\n        +1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC)\n        +1 305 224 1968 US\n        +1 309 205 3325 US\n        +1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\n        +1 360 209 5623 US\n        +1 386 347 5053 US\n        +1 507 473 4847 US\nMeeting ID: 862 7430 6749\nPasscode: 4723131265\nFind your local number: https://us02web.zoom.us/u/kdVGgCWTHU

SUMMARY:Dzamling Chisang - Universal Prayer Day
DESCRIPTION:The MDC will celebrate Dzam Ling Chi Sang\, Universal Prayer Day\, on July 29 (full moon day) with a Fire Puja in the backyard of the Dharma Center at 10AM PST. The Tibetan Festival\, Universal Prayer Day or Dzam Ling Chi Sang is a Tibetan Buddhist festival celebrated on the 15th day of the fifth month in Tibetan Calendar. It is a time for spiritual cleansing. On the Universal Prayer Day\, Tibetan people go to the tops of local mountains to burn incense and hang prayer flags. \nDzam Ling Chi Sang was originally meant to commemorate Guru Rinpoche’s subjugation of the local deities and the founding of Samye Monastery. In Lhasa\, there is the spectacle of large amounts of ‘Sang’ being burned up on the hills of Chakpori\, Bumpari (on the southern side of the Kyi-chu) and Gephelri ( behind Drepung Monastery )\, etc. ‘Sang’ is a Tibetan ‘ritual fireworks’. There is a variety in selection of material for Weisang\, like branches pine and cypress\, leaves of herbs such as Artemisia argyi and heath.
