Welcome back Rinpoche with a Kata Ceremony
August 25 @ 1:15 pm - 1:45 pm
Please note–there is no fixed time for this event–due to travel, timeline may vary!
Rinpoche will land in Monterey at 1:06pm on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, after leading the 19th Amitabha Dechen Shingdrup in Portland, OR for the past two weeks. We will welcome our dear teacher with a traditional kata ceremony (white silk scarf used to show respect). It’s suggested that you come to the Manjushri Dharma Center by 1:15pm and plan to wait until 1:45pm–as due to travel, Rinpoche may be home early or late. A box of katas will be left on the front porch.
Offerings of flowers for the altar would be wonderful! No food please, as Rinpoche has a very specific diet and he prefers to cook for himself. (We will stock his refrigerator with the basics)
Rinpoche will be very tired, so after we welcome him home, we will depart quickly and let him rest. Please remember to let him rest in the coming week and honor the “monk’s office hours”–do not contact him prior to 12pm PT if possible. (He uses the mornings for his personal practice).
We will all be together on Saturday, August 29th for meditation if Rinpoche is up for it–please check the website to make sure it’s still on.
Welcome back Rinpoche!
