Tashi Delek! Yesterday I participated in the Blessing of the Butterflies at the Pacific Grove Monarch Sanctuary. Monarch butterfly populations, which at one time were plentiful in the area, have dwindled to dangerously low numbers.
My friend Louise Ramirez, a Native American leader, conducted the ceremony. She has led this ceremony for the butterflies for many years. When I meet with her, her story and background reminds me of the struggle and loss of land in Tibet, and I relate with her.
The wonderful photos were taken by my student and MDC Board member, Karma Palden (Miles) who always takes such nice photographs of all of the public events. Thank you Karma Palden.
This is a good opportunity, and I am always happy to participate in events such as this. As a Tibetan Buddhist Vajrayana and Tantrayana, the balance and harmony of the 5 elements and nature is particularly important. I pray that the butterfly populations recover, grow and prosper in the future.
