Rinpoche and Thay Kozen. They love each other deeply.
Friday, July 25th was “Yurt Moving Day,” where the 30-foot yurt originally donated to Khenpo Karten Rinpoche and the Manjushri Dharma Center from Thay Kozen and Mount Adams Buddhist Temple, made it’s final move to Lama Lakshey Zangpo and his retreat center in the Santa Cruz mountains! The generous gift lives on and connects these three dear teachers and their students in a knot of unending good energy. Photos and more about the day below. Backstory here.
We put up “please no parking” signs the night before in hopes that the good citizens of PG would allow room on Sinex Avenue for the three moving trucks (one with a 20′ trailer) anticipated by the the five-person crew from Tsinta Mani Choling (Lama Lakshey’s Dharma Center). It worked! We had clear use of the space we needed, and the volunteers from Lama Lakshey got right to work loading the trucks. MDC had 7 volunteers as well (though 3 of 7 had bad backs!)–Candi and Kim, Foster and Mr. Lum Buhm were the all stars! Keith, Zenzi and Rachel did what they could within the confines of aging bodies. Rinpoche also jumped in of course! (after comparing muscles with the younger crew, and deciding that he was in fact the stronger one–funny Lama!)

The loading process went smoothly–we were entirely done by 2:30pm, as the Santa Cruz crew then faced the traffic back to SC and unloading. We did not have anyone able to join them on that side, but they warned us that if we left with them to unload, we would not be finished until 9pm at the earliest–unfortunately, none of the MDC crew had the time or the backs for it. They said that the unloading went well, and they will keep us joyfully informed of when they need some help in erecting the yurt–we hope to join for those days! (Even with bad backs, we can still lend snacks and good wishes!)
