At the request of some of my students, who asked me about my daily main practice of Guru Yoga and who were greatly touched by this practice, I decided to record a short video of this Sadhana, “The Guru Practice, Rain of Blessings“,composed by His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, and myself.

An explanation the origin of the text:  A Guru practice such as this for the glorious holy Guru, Kyabje Drubwang Sangye Tenzin Rinpoche, a fully enlightened buddha coming in the form of a human being, a Master of Refuge, Lord of Yogis, was requested by my holy brother from childhood, one endowed with the qualities of a holy being, Lama Dudul, and some others of my monastic college. Therefore, this one who lives only by the compassion of the Lord Guru, this incorrigible practitioner, this monk in rags, Karma Legshe Tharchin, otherwise known as Khenpo Karten, composed this at Jamyang Chökor Ling, my own room near the Boudhanath Stupa in Nepal, on March 11, 2003. May it become a cause for all beings to manifest the state of the Guru.

Editor’s note:  Khenpo Karten’s Root Guru, Japa Sangye Tenzin Rinpoche, spent 21 years in Chinese prison, yet he transformed the experience into pure spiritual food, and left the prison with only good wishes for his captors.  He was truly a Buddha appearing in this world.
