Last Saturday, April 19th, during our Saturday meditation, Rinpoche read a selection of his composition entitled, ” Excellent Path Of Freedom, The Jewel Ornament of Liberation in Brief.” Here is the selection from that day:
༦༣ །དང་པདའཀ་ལས་ཅན་ཞཀ་གནས་ལམ་ད་འཇག། །དཞ་ཡང་གནས་འག་རཀག་གསམ་ལམ་ལ་བསབ།
།གནས་པ་ཉང་ཞཀང་འག་བ་མང་བ་དང་། །རཀག་པས་འག་ངད་མ་ཤཞས་སདམ་བཞད་རམས།
།སདམ་གསར་རམས་ལ་ཐན་མདང་ལར་སང་བས། །ཡན་ཐང་གངས་མང་སདམ་ན་ཐར་རན་ཡཀན།

Beginners enter the path of shamata—calm abiding.
For that, we train in the path of stillness, movement, and awareness.
Those who are new meditators, in general, will meditate
With little stillness and a great deal of movement,
And awareness will not recognize when movement has occurred.Therefore, if they meditate in many short sessions, that is an ornament of Liberation.
༦༤ །རང་རཞ་མཉམ་མཞད་དགས་པདའཀ་ལགས་སདལ་ལ། །ཞཀ་གནས་ལམ་ནས་ལག་མཐདང་རདགས་པ་རཞད།
།རདགས་པར་བདགས་འདདན་ར་བའཀ་བ་མས་བཞད། །ནམ་ཞཀག་ཞཀ་ལག་ཟང་འབཞལ་འཇདག་སདམ་གཀས།
།མ་ཡཞངས་རང་བབས་གང་ཤར་མ་བཅདས་པར། །རཀག་སདང་ཟང་འཇག་ཤཞས་ན་ཐར་རན་ཡཀན།

In the system of our incomparable Dagpo Gampopa,
Vipasyana insight is found from the path of Shamata,
And the Guru boosts realizations higher.
At some point, with placement meditation of Shamata and Vipasyana together,
Undistracted, naturally dropping in, not altering whatever appears,
If we realize the union of awareness and emptiness, that is an ornament of Liberation.
༦༥ །དདན་གཀ་སངས་རས་ཆདས་ས་ཆཞན་པད་ཉཀད། །འགད་བའཀ་རད་ལ་ཐདག་མཞད་ནས་བཞགས་ཀང་།
།ཤཀན་ཏ་ས་བས་ཡཀད་མ་ཆཞས་གར་པས། །གཞན་ད་བཙལ་བའཀ་དཀའ་བ་མཀ་བརཞན་པར།
།རདགས་ལན་བ་མའཀ་གདམས་ངག་ཟབ་མདའཀ་མཐས། །རང་སཞམས་གནས་ལགས་མཐདང་ན་ཐར་རན་ཡཀན།

The true Buddha is great Dharmakaya itself.
Although it has been in beings’ minds forever,
Not believing it could be so easy,
We go through hardships to seek it elsewhere. If we don’t do this,
And by the power of the profound instructions of a realized Guru,
See the true nature of our own mind, that is an ornament of Liberation.
༦༦ །དངདས་གཞཀ་མཉམ་བཞག་སབས་ས་སཞམས་བང་དང་། །སཞམས་ལས་འདས་པའཀ་རཀག་སདང་ཆདས་ཀཀ་ས།
།གསལ་རཀག་རཞན་པའཀ་ཚལ་ད་མ་བཅདས་པར། །སདས་བལ་བད་འདས་བརདད་མཞད་ངང་ད་བཞག།
།ས་བསམ་བརདད་བལ་ཚལ་ད་རང་རཀག་གཀ། །ངཞས་ཤཞས་ནང་ནས་རཞད་ན་ཐར་རན་ཡཀན།

In the main practice of meditative equipoise,
With naked clear awareness, not altering mental factors
or Dharmakaya empty awareness that is beyond ordinary mind,
Settling in the inexpressible, free of projection, beyond intellect,
If we find inner certainty in our own pure awareness,
Beyond speech, thought, or expression, that is an ornament of Liberation.
༦༧ །ད་ལའཀ་ཤཞས་པ་མ་བཅདས་སད་མ་འདཀ། །དན་ཤཞས་ངང་ནས་མ་ཡཞངས་རང་བབས་ས།
།གནས་དགའ་འག་སག་ཡཀད་དཔདད་རདག་བལ་བ། །བརདད་བལ་བསམ་འདས་ཚལ་ད་རཀག་པའཀ་ངདར།
།རཀག་སདང་དག་མཉམ་ངང་ད་འཆར་བ་ཡཀས། །རང་མདང་ངཞས་ཤཞས་རཞད་ན་ཐར་རན་ཡཀན།

Dropping in to our own present moment of awareness, fresh, unaltered,
With mindfulness and alertness, without distraction,
Not thinking of stillness as good and movement as bad,
In pure awareness, inexpressible, beyond thought,
Understanding concepts and emptiness to be equal
If you develop certainty in your own experience, that is an ornament of Liberation.
༦༨ །གནས་ལ་མཀ་ཆགས་འག་ལ་མཀ་སང་ཞཀང་། །སཞམས་ཉཀད་མཁའ་ནས་འག་བའཀ་ཁ་བ་ཉཀད།
།རཀག་པའཀ་རད་ཚན་ཐདག་ཏ་ལང་བ་ན། །གང་ཤར་རཞས་མཞད་སད་མའཀ་གནས་ལགས་ངདར།
།མ་བཅདས་པ་འདཀ་སམ་པད་པ་ཡཀ་ལགས། །ཚལ་འདཀ་ཤཞས་ན་ཐར་རན་ངད་མ་ཡཀན།

Not attached to stillness or averse to movement,
When, from the sky of mind’s true nature,
Snow of movement falls upon the hot stone of awareness,
Whatever appears leaves no trace.
If we understand Gampopa’s method of not altering
The fresh present mode of existence, that is an ornament of Liberation.
༦༩ །འདས་པའཀ་རམ་པར་རདག་པའཀ་རཞས་མཀ་འབང་། །མ་འདངས་རདག་པའཀ་སན་བས་མཀ་བ་ཞཀང་།
།ད་ལའཀ་ཤཞས་པ་མ་བཅདས་གཉག་མའཀ་ངང་། །ཀ་དག་བཞཀ་ཆ་སམ་བལ་ངད་བད་ཉཀད།
།ཕག་རདགས་ཟང་འཇག་གནད་ཀཀ་མན་ངག་འདཀ། །ལཞགས་པར་ཉམས་ས་བངས་ན་ཐར་རན་ཡཀན།

Not following after thoughts of the past,
Or anticipating and welcoming thoughts of the future,
Within inborn unaltered present awareness,
Not finding past, present, and future in primordial purity,
If we practice this essential instruction
That unifies Mahamudra and Dzogchen, that is an ornament of Liberation.
༧༠ །ངཞས་ཤཞས་ནང་ནས་རཞད་ན་ལ་བ་ཡཀན། །མ་ཡཞངས་རཀག་ངད་བསང་ན་སདམ་པ་ཡཀན།
།གང་ཤར་དགག་སབ་མ་བཅདས་སདད་པ་ཡཀན། །བཟང་ངན་རཞ་དདག་མཞད་པ་འབས་བ་ཡཀན།
།གལ་གནད་ལ་སདམ་སདད་པའཀ་མན་ངག་འདཀ། །འགལ་མཞད་ཉམས་ས་བངས་ན་ཐར་རན་ཡཀན།

That discovered in definitive knowledge is the view.
Cultivating pure awareness without distraction is meditation.
Not rejecting, not approving, not altering whatever appears, is conduct.
Being beyond hope and fear is the result.
Practicing these important precepts of view, meditation, and action,
Is an ornament of Liberation.
༧༡ །མ་བཅདས་དཞ་གར་བཞག་པ་ལན་ནཞ་བ། །མདང་བ་བརདད་ད་མཞད་པ་ས་ལཞ་བ།
།རཀག་སདང་མངདན་སམ་མདང་བ་ཧཀག་གཞ་བ། །གང་ཤར་བད་འདས་སདས་བལ་རཞན་ནཞ་བ།
།གསལ་རཀག་ཡཞ་སདང་འཛན་མཞད་ཡཞ་རཞ་བ། །ཉམས་མདང་ནང་ནས་ཤར་ན་ཐར་རན་ཡཀན།

Leaving it as it is, unaltered, is peaceful,
Experience, inexpressible, is vividly clear,
Direct experience of awarenessemptiness is wide awake.
Whatever appears is beyond intellect, free of fabrications, naked,
Primordially pure clear awareness, free of grasping, pristine:
If this appears in your experience, that is an ornament of Liberation.
༧༢ །སབས་རཞར་ཐན་མཚམས་ར་བའཀ་བ་མ་ལ། །གདང་ཤགས་དག་པདས་གསདལ་འདཞབས་མདས་གས་བ།
།རཀགས་དདག་སཞམས་ཅན་རམས་ལ་སཀང་རཞ་སདམ། །རཞས་ཐདབ་ས་མ་ལ་བའཀ་སདད་པས་བསངས།
།ཚགས་གཉཀས་འགལ་མཞད་གདན་ཐདག་གཅཀག་ཉཀད་ད། །མ་ནདར་ཉམས་ས་བངས་ན་ཐར་རན་ཡཀན།

Sometimes, between sessions make strong prayers
To the root Guru with devotion.
Do compassion meditation for the six realms’ sentient beings.
Between sessions of meditation, practice illusionlike conduct.
If you unmistakenly practice gathering of the two accumulations,12
Upon a single meditation cushion without contradiction, that is an ornament of Liberation.
༧༣ །དཞ་ལར་རང་མདང་རདགས་པའཀ་ཡདན་ཏན་ཉཀད། །ས་ལམ་འབས་བ་ཡདན་ཏན་རབ་རདགས་ཏཞ།
།རལ་བའཀ་ས་གསམ་ཀདང་ད་རདགས་གར་ན། །སཀབ་གཉཀས་ཉདན་མདངས་རད་ནས་ཡདངས་སངས་ཞཀང་།
།སངས་རས་རང་ལས་རཞད་པས་བསལ་བཟང་གཀ། །སཀད་པའཀ་ཉཀ་མ་ཤར་ན་ཐར་རན་ཡཀན།

Thus, fully completing qualities of the paths, grounds, and fruits,
The very qualities we have realized in our own experience,
If we perfect the expanse of Buddha’s three bodies13
And fully abandon the two obscurations14 from the root,
If there dawns the sun of happiness of the good fortune
Of discovering Buddha within ourselves, that is an ornament of Liberation.
༧༤ །དཀ་བལ་ཆདས་ས་ནམ་མཁའ་ལ་བ་ལ། །ཐགས་རཞའཀ་མ་འགགས་ལདངས་ས་ཉཀ་མ་ལར།
།གཞན་དདན་འབད་མཞད་སལ་སས་འགད་བ་རམས། །རདངས་པའཀ་སག་མན་སཞལ་མཛད་ས་གསམ་གཀ།
།གད་འཕང་ཚ་འདཀ་ཉཀད་ལ་མངདན་གར་ན། དཞ་ནཀ་ངཞས་པར་དདན་གཀ་ཐར་རན་ཡཀན།

In stainless skylike Dharmakaya,
Is sunlike Sambhogakaya of ceaseless compassion,
Effortlessly emanating Nirmanakayas for the benefit for others,
Clearing the dark gloom of the ignorance of beings.
If we manifest the state of the three bodies in this very life
That is the definitive ornament of Liberation.
