This ‘Free Tibet Mini Documentary’, featuring Khenpo Karten Rinpoche, shows a brief overview of Rinpoche’s life in Tibet and the events which led to his eventual settlement in Pacific Grove, California – directed, edited, and filmed by director and cinematographer Zack Seifert:

Here is a short message from Rinpoche to the Tibetan Diaspora regarding the film:

“These days many Tibetans living as refugees outside Tibet don’t always remember three things we should never forget: where we are from; what is going on there now; and our responsibility for the future. Each day living in our adoptive sanctuary country, we are distracted by such things as food and clothing. We even forget that we are refugees from Tibet! We forget that our homeland has been forcibly seized by others, and that for over sixty years we have been separated from our families and larger Tibetan family. And we forget that, no matter what, all Tibetans must someday be free to gather again in Tibet. Distracted by these three kinds of amnesia, every day fewer and fewer people think about the real issues of Tibet. Now living in California, U.S.A. surrounded by students, my life is pleasant; but I am now releasing this film in Tibetan with English subtitles, a brief story of my life, revealing without reservation some of its unpleasant, painful experiences. I hope it will remind us and inspire some of those in our families and communities who are similarly distracted by the above three kinds of forgetfulness.”
