On June 21st, after our weekly Saturday morning meditation, the Manjushri Dharma Center was fortunate enough to welcome Dr. Jetsun Cheme. Dr. Jetsun Cheme is a traditional Tibetan medicine doctor and yoga instructor who is currently practicing in New York close to the local Tibetan community. After meditation, she gave personal health consultations to many who attended, prescribing herbal remedies and traditional medicines along with her professional medical advice. Many students greatly enjoyed meeting with her and said that they were truly amazed by her expertise and insight!

Editor’s note: When Rinpoche was in New York, he had an appointment with the well-known Dr. Jetsun Cheme. Rinpoche was so impressed with her skills, he invited her to California, and she accepted! Upon her arrival on Friday, June 20th, she had a walk with Rinpoche and Tony to lunch and to the ocean, then joined our summer solstice Blessing of the Waters ceremony. On Saturday, June 21, she set up in the outside patio and began seeing patients. We created a sign up list for that day for in-person attendees, which quickly grew to 22 people long! As her first patients were being seen, Lama Lakshey Zangpo and four of his students from Santa Cruz arrived! Dr. Cheme spent 20-30 minutes per patient, and it quickly became clear that she would not get to everyone in the course of the day. We asked those who signed up if they could return on Sunday, and about half of the list agreed to return the next day. Originally we had hoped to take Dr. Cheme touring on Sunday, but she was adamant that she was here to serve the people, and she was happy to give her time to see more people. On Sunday, she began at 10am and again did not finish until late afternoon. Two full days to see patients! Many commented that she was able to tell them things about themselves she could not have possibly known–they could feel her intuitive and skilled healing practice. Dr. Cheme is an 8th generation Tibetan doctor, and we were so fortunate to have her visit and treat Rinpoche and our sangha. Below are a few photos.
